The study of time-varying systems leads to natural generalizations of the notion of analytic function in the open unit disk or in the open upper half-plane. In the first case, analytic functions should be replaced by bounded upper triangular operators between two sequence spaces, while in the second case they are replaced by bounded lower triangular operators. The complex numbers are replaced, in the first case, by diagonal operators, and in the second by multiplication operators by bounded measurable functions. As in each of these cases there exists a natural generalization of point evaluation, it is therefore possible to define the bitangential interpolation problem in the nonstationary setting. The main aim of this paper is to study this problem in the setting of lower triangular integral Hilbert-Schmidt operators.
