Right cones are left cancellative monoids (with zero) such that for any two elements one is a right multiple of the other. The authors study the ideal theory of these monoids in terms of prime and completely prime ideals and apply the general theory to right chain rings. If \(H\) is a right cone, then the union \(J(H)\) of all proper right ideals of \(H\) is called the Jacobson radical of \(H\). Theorem 1: Let \(H\) be a right cone. Then \(J(H)\) is an ideal and every one-sided unit in \(H\) is a unit. Theorem 2: Let \(H\) be a right cone and \(I\neq H\) an ideal. Then \(\bigcap\{I^n:n\in\mathbb{N}\}\) is a completely prime ideal of \(H\) provided \(I^n\neq\{0\}\) for all natural numbers \(n\) and every idempotent ideal of \(H\) different from \(H\) and \(\{0\}\) is completely prime. Theorem 3: Let \(Q\) be a prime ideal of a right cone \(H\) that is not completely prime. Then \(Q=\{0\}\) or \(Q\supset Q^2\). There exists a completely prime ideal \(P\) minimal over \(Q\) such that \(P\) is idempotent and there are no ideals between \(P\) and \(Q\). The prime radical of a right cone is the intersection of all its prime ideals. Theorem 4: Let \(H\) be a right cone. The set of nilpotent elements of \(H\) is an ideal iff the prime radical of \(H\) is completely prime. This gives a precise answer to a question of \textit{L. A. Skornyakov} [Sib. Mat. Zh. 11, 168-182 (1970; Zbl 0203.31902)]. The authors also study Archimedean right cones. Theorem 5: A right cone \(H\) is Archimedean iff \(H\) is right invariant and has at most 2 completely prime ideals. The authors further study cones with exactly 2 completely prime ideals and associations between cones and rings.
