The author considers an initial-boundary value problem with nonsmooth data for first-order hyperbolic systems. He extends the time domain to minus infinity and replaces the initial condition with a growth one. This new problem is solved using a filtered version of the data by the Galerkin-collocation method with Laguerre and Legendre polynomials in time, respectively space variables. Thus, if the actual solution is piecewise smooth, its pointwise values can be recovered with spectral accuracy.
