The authors consider the system of rational functions \(e_{ks}(z)= s!/(2\pi i) z^s (1-\overline{\lambda_k}z)^{-s-1}\), \(k=1,2,\dots\); \(s=0,1,\dots\), \(m_k -1\), defined on the unit disk \(\mathbb D\), where \(| \lambda_k | <1\), \(k=1,2, \dots \) and \(\lambda_i \neq \lambda_j \) for \(i\neq j \). First it is noted that the closed linear hull \(E_p\) of the above system in \(H^p\) is incomplete if and only if \(\sum_{k=1}^{\infty } m_k(1-| \lambda_k |)<\infty \). In this situation it is shown that the space \(H^p\) \((1<p<\infty)\) is orthogonally projected onto the subspace \(E_p\), which means that for each function \(f\in H^p\) there exists a unique function \(P_{E_p}f \in E_p\) such that the integrals \(\int_{| t| =1}(f(t)-P_{E_p}f(t))\overline{e_{ks}(t)}/(it) dt\) exist and are all zero. In addition the functions \(P_{E_p}f\) are expressed as a certain limit in \(H^p\).
