    A Banach lattice \(X\) is said to be \(q\)-concave \((1\leq q<\infty)\) iff there is a constant \(K>0\) such that \[ \Biggl( \sum_{k=1}^n \|x_k\|^q \Biggr)^{\frac 1q}\leq K\left\|\Biggl( \sum_{k=1}^n |x_k|^q \Biggr)^{\frac 1q} \right\| \] for every choice of vectors \(x_1, x_2,\dots, x_n\in X\). Let \(I= (0,1)\) or \(I= (0,\infty)\). The space of all (equivalence classes of) Lebesgue measurable real functions defined on \(I\) is denoted by \(L^0\). A function \(w: (0,1)\to (0,\infty)\) \((w: (0,\infty))\to (0,\infty))\) with \(\int_0^1 w<\infty\) \((\int_0^\infty w= \infty)\) is called a weight function. Given \(1\leq p< \infty\), the Lorentz space \(\Lambda_{p,w}\) is the set of all \(f\in L^0\) such that \[ \|f\|_{p,w}= \Biggl( \int_I (f^*(t))^p w(t)\Biggr)^{\frac 1p}< \infty. \] The norm space \((\Lambda_{p,w}, \|\;\|_{p,w})\) is a Banach lattice with the order \[ f\leq g\text{ if and only if }f(t)\leq g(t)\text{ for a.e. }t\in I. \] A theorem of this paper is the following: If \(1\leq p,q<\infty\), then \(\Lambda_{p,w}\) is \(q\)-concave if and only if either a) \(p<q\) and \(\alpha(S)> \frac pq\) or b) \(p=q\) and \(\Lambda_{p,w}= L_p\), where \[ S(x)= \int_0^x w(t) dt \quad (x\in I) \] and \[ \alpha(S)= \sup\{p\in \mathbb{R}: \exists_{C>0} \forall_{a\geq 1}[au\in I\Rightarrow S(au)\geq Ca^p s(u)]\}. \] All proofs are mainly based on integral inequalities.
