The paper deals with the simple complex finite-dimensional simply-laced Lie algebras \(G\) and their generalized Verma modules. The module is called \(\alpha\)-stratified if it is torsion free with respect to the subalgebra corresponding to a root \(\alpha\). The authors generalize the classical theorem of Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand on Verma module inclusions. Besides, in the final Section 7 of the paper the character formula for certain \(\alpha\)-stratified irreducible modules is derived.
