The main aim of the paper is to classify Hopf algebras of dimension at most \(11\) over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of characteristic zero. This was previously done in the thesis of R. Williams in 1988 with very computational arguments. The method proposed in the paper under review is based on recent results about finite dimensional Hopf algebras. The key step is to show that if \(A\) is a Hopf algebra of dimension at most \(11\) which is not semisimple, then either \(A\) or \(A^*\) is pointed. In order to show this, the following results of particular interest in their own are proved: 1) A Hopf algebra generated as an algebra by a \(4\)-dimensional simple subcoalgebra invariant under the antipode is a quotient of the coordinate ring of a certain quantum \(\text{SL}_2(k)\). 2) If \(A\) is a Hopf algebra of dimension \(n\) which is not cosemisimple, then the dimension of the coradical of \(A\) is at most \(n-2\).
