Let \(E\) be a real inner product space and \(G\) an Abelian group. It is known that if \(f:E\to G\) satisfies the Cauchy equation \[ f(x+y)= f(x)+ f(y), \quad\text{for all }x,y\in E\text{ with }x\perp y, \] then there exist exactly one additive function \(a:\mathbb{R}\to G\) and exactly one additive function \(b:E\to G\) such that \[ f(x)= a[\| x\|^2]+ b(x), \quad\text{for all }x\in E. \] We say that \(f\) is orthogonally additive. The authors consider conditions on \(f\) which imply that the additive mappings \(a\) and \(b\) are continuous as well as the so called Baire measurability, universal measurability and continuity at a point. The results obtained generalize some earlier theorems of \textit{L. Paganoni} and \textit{J. Rätz} [Aequationes Math. 50, No. 1-2, 125-142 (1995; Zbl 0876.39008)].
