The nonlinear control of a synchronous motor is discussed. The nonlinear approach provides a more realistic model of the problem. It is known that when digitization is used, a loss of stability can occur. Here the authors elaborate a control scheme for the angular speed of the smooth-pole synchronous motor with permanent magnet. In designing the control scheme, the so-called \((\alpha,\beta)\) frame representation was used. The control law for the continuous description was derived in terms of the imposed relationship of the angular velocity. Numerical examples illustrating the synthesis procedure, in the continuous and in the digital case, are given. The obtained results validate the proposed method.
