The authors suggest a new approach to get more insight into the lattice \(\mathcal L\) of all semigroup varieties. Instead of the whole lattice \(\mathcal L\) they study complete sublattices which are defined by using monoids of hypersubstitutions. The article consists of four sections. In Section 1, a Galois-connection between monoids of hypersubstitutions and sublattices of the subvariety lattice of a given semigroup variety \(\mathcal V\) is described. In Section 2 the authors study a concrete 6-element monoid of hypersubstitutions and all its submonoids. In Section 3 the mentioned Galois-connection is illustrated by taking \(\mathcal V\) to be the semigroup variety given by the identity \(xyz=xz\) (this variety is the least non-trivial solid variety of semigroups which is no band variety). In Section 4 the authors study complete sublattices of the lattice of all pre-solid varieties of commutative semigroups.
