The Abel-Cartwight means of a function \(f\in L^p({\mathbb R}^n)\) are defined in terms of the Fourier transform by \[ \widehat{W_{t\gamma}(f)}(\xi)=e{-(t| \xi|)^\gamma}\hat f(\xi). \] This paper deals only with the case \(1<p<\infty\). For \(f\in L^p({\mathbb R}^n)\) denote by \(\omega_N(f,t)_p\) its modulus of continuity of degree \(N\) in \(L^p-\)metric. Let \(\omega\) be a positive nondecreasing function on \((0,1)\) such that \(\displaystyle {\omega_N(f,t)p\over \omega(t)}\) is nondecreasing. The main purpose of this paper is to find sufficient conditions on the modulus \(\omega_N(f,t)_p\) to ensure \[ \lim_{t\to\infty}{W_{t\gamma}(f,x)-f(x)\over \omega(t)}=0\quad\text{a.e.} \] Such a condition which ``takes care of the saturation order \(O(t^\gamma)\) of the Abel-Cartwright means'' is given. In the proof maximal functions are heavily employed.
