Let \(D > 0\) be a quadratic discriminant and \(s(D)\) the number of positive coprime solutions \((x,y,z)\) of the equation \(D = y^2 + 4xz\). Various fomulas for \(s(D)\) in terms of the integral parts of reduced quadratic irrationalities of discriminant \(D\) are given.
