\textit{M. A. Rieffel} [Am. J. Math. 112, 657-686 (1990; Zbl 0713.58054)] described the group \(C^*\)-algebra \(C^*(G)\) of an exponential Lie group \(G\) as a strict deformation quantization of the algebras \(C^\infty(\mathfrak g)\) of smooth functions on the vector space \(\mathfrak g^*\) dual to the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) of \(G\) with the natural Poisson structure \[ \{df,dg\}(\theta):=-\theta([df_\theta,dg_\theta]). \] The same result can be easily extended to the compact Lie group case (Theorem 1). If now \(\Gamma\in Z^2(\mathfrak g,\mathbb R)\) is some 2-cocycle on the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) with values in \(\mathbb R\) [\textit{P. Liberman} and \textit{C.-M. Marle}, Symplectic geometry and analytic mechanics. Mathematics and its Appl. 35 (Dordrecht etc. 1987; Zbl 0643.53002)] on the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) one can also construct so-called twisted Poisson brackets \[ \{ f,g\}^{(\Gamma)}_{\pm} = -(c^k_{ij}\theta_k + \Gamma_{ij}){\partial f\over\partial \theta_i} {\partial g \over\partial \theta_j}, \] where \(c^k_{ij}\) are the structure constants of the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) in a given basis \(\{ X_i\}\) and \(\Gamma_{ij} := \Gamma(X_i,X_j)\). The main result of the paper under review is Theorem 2 (\S 4) in which the author constructed the twisted group algebra \(C^*(G,c^\hbar)\), where \(c\) is a 2-cocycle in \(Z^2(G,U(1))\) with values in the unitary group \(U(1)\) and its derivative \(dc = \Gamma\), as a strict quantization of the Poisson algebra \(C^\infty_{PW}(\mathfrak g_{(\Gamma)})\) with the twisted Poisson brackets corresponding to \(\Gamma\) and with the discrete Planck constant parameter \(\hbar \in ({\mathbb Z} \setminus (0))^{-1}\).
