The author reproves some characterizations of almost QF rings (as defined by \textit{M. Harada} [Osaka J. Math. 30, No. 4, 887-892 (1993; Zbl 0807.16003)]) from his 1995 master thesis at Osaka City University. As a sample of the results, here is Theorem 5: If \(R\) is right Artinian, then \(R\) is almost QF if and only if for each primitive idempotent \(e\) of \(R\), every essential extension of \(eR\) has a unique maximal submodule if and only if for each such \(e\), \(eR\) is a waist in its injective envelope \(E(eR)\) and \(E(eR)/eR\) is uniserial.
