In [Suppl. Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo, II. Ser. 50, 259-271 (1997; Zbl 0901.52009)], the reviewer described certain valuations on the family \({\mathcal K}^d\) of convex bodies in \(\mathbb{R}^d\) (the expressions are a little complicated, and so we omit them), and conjectured that a general continuous isometry covariant valuation was a linear combination of them. As usual, a valuation \(\varphi\) on \({\mathcal K}^d\), taking values in the space of symmetric tensors on \(\mathbb{R}^d\), satisfies \(\varphi(K_1\cup K_2)+ \varphi(K_1\cap K_2)= \varphi(K_1)+\varphi(K_2)\) whenever \(K_1,K_2,K_1\cup K_2\in{\mathcal K}^d\); it is isometry covariant if it permits polynomial expansions under translation which transform appropriately under rotation, and continuity is with respect to the Hausdorff metric. In this elegant little paper, the author here uses his earlier characterization of isometry invariant valuations in [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 149, No. 3, 977-1005 (1999)] to establish the conjecture.
