Cauchy principal value and Hadamard finite part singular integrals arise when the boundary element method is used to solve two-dimensional problems in potential theory. The numerical evaluation of these integrals is discussed in this paper. The method considered is based on the use of Chebyshev series representations for the nonsingular part of the integrand, and for a near-minimax approximation to the integration boundary curve. It is assumed that the integrand and boundary curve can both be given on a standard set of Chebyshev data points. The approximations to the final integrals, which involve the combination of the two series with the singular part of the integrand, can then be integrated analytically. The paper focuses on the algorithmic details for constructing the series and using the series to determine the final approximations to the integrals. In the middle of the paper there is a more theoretical section concerned with some analysis of the convergence of the method. The paper concludes with an extensive set of numerical examples that illustrate the convergence and generality of the method.
