Factors of iterated resultants and discriminants (Q1283193)

This paper is based on certain intriguing factorization properties of repeated resultants and discriminants of ``random'' integral polynomials observed by \textit{G. E. Collins} [Lect. Notes Comput. Sci. 33, 134-183 (1975; Zbl 0318.02051)]. The author proves some theorems concerning degrees, irreducibility, factorization and divisibility properties of polynomials arising from resultants, discriminants and derivatives of three generic polynomials in three variables. These theorems generalize in some sense Collins' observations.
