The authors establish a quantum Galois correspondence for a compact Lie group of automorphisms \(G\) acting continuously on a simple vertex operator algebra \(V\). By using the decomposition \(V=\oplus_{\lambda\in\Lambda}W_\lambda\otimes V_\lambda\) obtained in [\textit{C. Dong, H. Li} and \textit{G. Mason}, Int. Math. Res. Not. 18, 913-921 (1996; Zbl 0873.17028)], where \(W_\lambda\), \(\lambda\in\Lambda\), are all inequivalent simple \(G\)-modules and \(V_\lambda\) are (nonzero) irreducible modules for the vertex operator subalgebra \(V^G\) of \(G\)-fixed points of \(V\), the authors introduce a notion of orthogonally complemented vertex operator subalgebra of \(V\). The main result says that the map \(H\mapsto V^H\) is a bijection between the closed Lie subgroups of \(G\) and the simple orthogonally complemented vertex operator subalgebras of \(V\) which contain \(V^G\). This result is closely related to [\textit{A. Hanaki, M. Miyamoto} and \textit{D. Tambara}, Quantum Galois theory for finite groups, Duke Math. J. 97, No. 3, 541-544 (1999)] in the case when \(G\) is finite.
