The notion of abelian intertwining algebra was introduced by \textit{C. Dong} and \textit{J. Lepowsky} [Generalized vertex algebras and relative vertex operators, Progress in Math. 112, Birkhäuser, Boston (1993; Zbl 0803.17009)], the motivating example was the abelian intertwining algebra \(V_L\) associated with a rational lattice \(L\); the notion of module for an abelian intertwining algebra was introduced by \textit{H. Guo} [On abelian intertwining algebras and their modules, Ph.D. thesis, Rutgers University (1995)]. In the paper under review the author proves that the abelian intertwining algebra \(V_L\) is simple, that \(V_L\) has only finitely many irreducible modules, that every module is completely reducible, and that the fusion rules for irreducible modules are \(0\) or \(1\). These results generalize the corresponding results for vertex operator algebras associated with positive definite even lattices. The author also proves a conjecture of Y.-Z. Huang on simple abelian intertwining algebras arising from certain rational vertex algebras and their modules, saying that the adjoint module is the only irreducible module up to weak equivalence for the abelian intertwining algebra associated with the given data.
