Let \(S\) be a semitopological semigroup. A pair \((\psi ,X)\) is called a compactification of \(S\) if \(X\) is a compact, Hausdorff, right topological semigroup and \(\psi :S\to X\) is a continuous homomorphism with dense image such that the mapping \(x\mapsto\psi (s)x:X\to X\) is continuous for all \(s\in S\). The constructions of universal compactifications of \(S\) into compact, Hausdorff, right topological commutative semigroups, or compact, Hausdorff, right topological bands, or compact, Hausdorff, right topological semilattices are presented. All presented compactifications are subalgebras of the \(C^{*}\)-algebra of all continuous bounded complex-valued functions on \(S\). Other universal compactifications are discussed.
