Let \(R\) be a \(d\)-dimensional complete intersection ring of codimension \(r>0\) and \(M,N\) two finite \(R\)-modules. After Gulliksen and Avramov all but finite even and odd Betti numbers of \(M\) are given by two polynomials of the same degree cx\(_R(M)\) called the complexity of \(M\). Set \(b=\max \{\text{depth} M, \text{ depth} N\}\) and \(c=\min \{\text{cx}_R M,\text{cx}_RN\}\). Then the following statements are equivalent; (i) \(\text{Tor}^R_i (M,N)=0\) for all \(i\gg 0\), (ii) \(\text{Tor}^R_i (M,N)=0\) for all \(i\geq d-b+1\), (iii) for some \(i>d-b+1:\text{Tor}_i^R (M,N)= \cdots= \text{Tor}^R_{i+c} (M,N)=0\) and \(\text{cx}_R M+\text{cx}_R N\leq r\). This generalizes the results of \textit{M. P. Murthy} [Ill. J. Math. 7, 558-565 (1963; Zbl 0117.02701)] and \textit{C. Huneke} and \textit{R. Wiegand} [Math. Ann. 299, No. 3, 449-476 (1994; Zbl 0803.13008)] concerning the extension of the rigidity theorem of Auslander and Lichtenbaum in complete intersection case. Moreover, if \(M\otimes_RN\) has finite length then there exists a positive integer \(e\) such that if \(\text{Tor}^R_i (M,N)=0\) for some even and some odd \(i>e\) then \(\text{Tor}^R_j (M,N)=0\) for all \(j\geq d-b+1\). There are examples showing that the above conditions are sharp.
