The paper is devoted to the studies of the structure of the elliptic quantum algebra \(U_{q,p}(\widehat{sl}_2)\) introduced by \textit{H. Konno} [Commun. Math. Phys. 195, 373-403 (1998)]. Using a new set of generating series in the quantum affine algebra \(U_{q}(\widehat{sl}_2)\) the authors prove that \(U_{q,p}(\widehat{sl}_2)\) is a tensor product of \(U_{q}(\widehat{sl}_2)\) with the Heisenberg algebra. These new generating series are elliptic analogues of the Drinfeld currents, and allow for construction of an \(L\)-operator satisfying the dynamical \(RLL\) relations. It is also shown that the vertex operators of \textit{S. Lukyanov} and \textit{Y. Pugai} [Nucl. Phys. B 473, 631-658 (1996; Zbl 0905.17038)] arise as certain intertwiners of \(U_{q,p}(\widehat{sl}_2)\) for the level one representation. Vertex operators with higher level/spin in the free field representation are also presented.
