This paper is concerned with realization of finite abelian groups as Galois groups. Let \(A\) be an arbitrary finite abelian group of exponent \(n\), and let \(k\) be any field having characteristic prime to \(n\). Let \(t\) be an indeterminate and let \(K\) be the rational function field \(k(t)\) over the field \(k\). The author proves that there exists an \(r\in k((t))\) such that \(K(r)/K\) is an abelian extension with Galois group isomorphic to the given abelian group \(A\). This has been known before for cyclic groups by a series of papers due to M. Fried, D. Harbater, Q. Liu, B. H. Matzat, etc.
