The authors consider the dissipative driven softening oscillator governed by the equation \(\ddot x+ h\dot x+ x-x^2= F\sin\omega t\). Scenarios of the strict loss of stability (catastrophes) of the multiple coexisting attractors are explored, as well as criteria for predictability of final outcomes at the region of the 2T-subharmonic resonance, in connection with the study of multiglobal bifurcations and development of fractal structure of basins of attraction. The analysis in based on the numerical study of the sudden qualitative changes of the structure of basin-phase portraits, the changes implied by multiglobal bifurcations. Attention is focused on two qualitatively different regions of control space: the region prior to the subcritical flip bifurcation, where all three attractors (2T-periodic, T-periodic and the attractor at infinity) coexist, and the region after the bifurcation, where only two attractors (2T-periodic and the attractor at infinity) coexist. Many results of numerical computations performed with suitable computer programs are given in the form of Poincaré maps and basins of attraction.
