We analyze buckling, postbuckling, nonlinear vibration and parametric resonance of thick circular cylindrical shells under axial compression. Our approach is based on a nonlinear and non-shallow thick shell theory, with its final equations involving two unknowns: the circumferential displacement, and the radial displacement. The shell wall is cross-ply laminated, where the plies are specially orthotropic, but the lamination can be unsymmetric. The axial load is assumed to be harmonically time-dependent, or constant as a special case. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations by Galerkin procedure. Then, an asymptotic method is used to solve the resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations.
