The Lagrange-Galerkin spectral element method on unstructured quadrilateral grids (Q1287233)

A new Lagrange-Galerkin spectral element method on unstructured quadrilateral grids is introduced. The method traces the characteristic curves of the solution and is well suited for resolving the nonlinearities introduced by the advection operator. In the smooth regions caused by the diffusion operator the spectral scheme usually yields extremely high precision. A stability analysis shows the high accuracy, and numerical experiments in 1D and 2D demonstrate the efficiency of the treatment.
