The aim of the article is to study numerically the problem of fusing hyperbolic and parabolic equations. Similar problems arise in mathematical modelling of physical-chemical processes in composite bodies when mathematical models are necessary to be used basing on equations of different type in different parts of the calculation domain. In this study, a particular attention is paid to the fusion conditions on the boundary of subdomains. In the article under review, taking as an example the simplest one-dimensional boundary value problem of the form \[ \begin{alignedat}{2} \rho_1 (x)\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}&=\frac{\partial}{\partial x}\left( k_1(x)\frac{\partial u}{\partial x}\right) + f_1(x,t), &&\qquad (x,t)\in Q_1, \\ \rho_2 (x)\frac{\partial^2 u}{\partial t^2}&=\frac{\partial}{\partial x}\left( k_2(x)\frac{\partial u}{\partial x}\right) + f_2(x,t), &&\qquad (x,t)\in Q_2, \end{alignedat} \] in the rectangle \(\overline{Q} = \overline{Q}_1\cup\overline{Q}_2\) under the initial-boundary conditions and the fusion conditions on the interfaces \(x=\xi\) between the two domains \(Q_1\) and \(Q_2\), the authors study the question of numerical solutions of the problem. A homogeneous difference scheme is constructed which belongs to the class of schemes with variable (discontinuous) weight factors. The classes of unconditionally stable schemes are distinguished and the convergence rate of an approximate solution to the exact solution is studied.
