Constructing a Lyapunov function, the stability of the equilibrium of a delayed model describing the competition of two species in the form \[ x_i'(t)= x_i(t) f_i(x_1(t- \tau_{i1}), x_2(t- \tau_{i2})) \] is studied. Conditions for the asymptotic stability of the equilibrium are derived and applied to the Lotka-Volterra competition model.
