Five-mode interactions in a free-shear layer (Q1288451)

Nonlinear modal interactions in a spatially developing free-shear layer are studied using a five-mode model. Attention is focused on the energy exchange mechanisms between the various modes. It is shown that the downstream growth of the shear layer and the associated local entrainment can be strongly affected by the initial phase angles of the modes.
