The author investigates the uniqueness of a non-trivial fixed point of a map preserving a positive cone and obtains (with suitable assumptions) a new kind of condition for the uniqueness of the non-trivial fixed point. The result is then applied to prove the uniqueness of the non-trivial equilibrium solution for a discrete time population dynamics model and its continuous time analogue. In fact, the work was motivated by its application to the age-structured density-dependent population dynamics model.
