The \(q\)-Schur algebra \(S_q(n,r)\) and the Hecke algebra \(H(A_{r-1})\) of type \(A\) act on the \(r\)-th tensor power of a vector space \(V\) of dimension \(n\) in such a way that the two actions centralize each other. This phenomenon is known as quantum Weyl reciprocity, and the aim of this paper is to investigate it for arbitrary \(q\) (particularly when \(q\) is a root of unity) and for arbitrary fields \(k\). As the authors note, there has been significant progress by Donkin and others on special cases of this problem. One of the main breakthroughs in the paper is that the authors are able to show that quantum Weyl reciprocity holds integrally, i.e., over the ring of Laurent polynomials \(\mathbb{Z}[q,q^{-1}]\), and also that it behaves well under base change. The authors are interested in the theory of tilting modules, both as a proof technique and also so that they can study the Ringel dual of the \(q\)-Schur algebra, which is defined up to Morita equivalence. Their approach involves showing that the tensor space \(V^{\otimes r}\) is a tilting module for the \(q\)-Schur algebra. It turns out that the Ringel dual of the \(q\)-Schur algebra can typically be identified with a natural quotient of the Hecke algebra.
