The authors study a system of the form \[ \frac{d}{dt}{u\choose v}=A {u\choose v} -m(r){u\choose v},\qquad \frac{dr}{dt}=g(r)-h[L(u,v)]r \] with given initial values. Here \(u(t)\) stands for the density of young individuals, \(v(t)\) for the adults, \(r(t)\) for the resources. \(L\) is a positive linear functional and \(h\) a smooth strictly increasing function (unbounded) vanishing at 0. Further \(A=\left(\begin{smallmatrix} -\frac{\partial}{\partial a} & 0\\ E_\ell & -\nu\end{smallmatrix}\right)\) where \(a\) stands for age and \(E_\ell\) for evaluation at age \(\ell, \nu =\text{const.}\) They prove existence and uniqueness of a classical solution as well as asymptotic results.
