    Let \((E,d)\) be a metric space with finite diameter \(D\). Denote by \(N(E, d, \varepsilon)\) the minimal covering number of \(E\) by \(d\)-open balls of radius \(\varepsilon\). \textit{M. Talagrand} [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Probab. Stat. 32, No. 6, 779-799 (1996; Zbl 0869.60032)] showed that if \(H\) is a Hilbert space and \(U:H\to H\) is a contraction, then there exists a universal constant \(K> 0\) such that for all \(x\in H\) with \(\|x\|= 1\), and for every \(0<\varepsilon< 1\), \(N (A^U(x), \|\cdot\|, \varepsilon)\leq K/\varepsilon^2\) where \(A^U(x)= \{\frac 1n \sum_{j=0}^{n-1} U^j(x)\), \(u\geq 1\}\). The author extends this result to \(L^p\)-spaces. In particular, the author shows that if \(\frac 1p+ \frac 1q= 1\) where \(2\leq p< \infty\), then there exists a universal constant \(K_p\) such that for any rotation \(T\) on the circle \({\mathbf T}\), and for any \(x= \sum c_i\varphi_i\) with \(\|c_i\|_q= 1\) and for every \(0<\varepsilon< 1\), one has \(N(A^T(x), \|\cdot\|_p, \varepsilon)\leq K_p/ \varepsilon^p\), where \(\{\varphi_j: j\in \mathbb{Z}\}\) is the family of characters of \({\mathbf T}\).
