The author discusses the functional equation \[ z^{\kappa}\phi (z)=\sum_{k=1}^nG_k(z)\phi (s_kz)+g(z),\quad | z| \leq\delta , \tag{1} \] via a boundary value problem. Here \(\kappa >0\), \(G_k\) and \(g\) are analytic in \(| z| \leq\delta\) for sufficiently small positive \(\delta\) and the constants \(s_k\) satisfy the inequalities \(0<| s_1| \leq | s_2| \leq\dots\leq| s_n| <1\). Thus local solutions to equation (1) are considered. The known and unknown functions occuring in (1) are represented in the form of their Taylor expansions. Substituting these expansions into (1) one can obtain an infinite system of linear algebraic equations. If \(\sum_{k=1}^ns_k^mG_k(0)\neq 0\) for \(m=0,1,2,\dots\), then this infinite system has a unique formal solution \((\alpha_0,\alpha_1,\alpha_2,\dots)\). This formal solution gives a solution \(\phi (z)\) of (1) analytic at \(z=0\) if and only if certain \(\kappa\) linear independent conditions are fulfilled.
