This paper presents an information-theoretical analysis of heat-conducting liquids in non-equilibrium states. The total heat flux is split into two components carried respectively by longitudinal sound and self-diffusing molecules, following a previous model by the author [Phys. Fluids 3, 216 ff (1960)]. The corresponding conjugated Lagrange multipliers used in maximizing the entropy are calculated, and the nonequilibrium entropy is presented. The relaxation rate equations for both components of the heat flux, which are assumed mutually independent, are obtained by a method proposed by \textit{Robertson} [Phys. Rev. 144, 151 ff (1966)]. In this approximation, pressure and viscosity are assumed to be analytical functions of the temperature gradient.
