The authors introduce the notion of smooth pretopological spaces in the spirit of the Shostak fuzzy topologies (also called smooth topologies in the literature, which, by definition, are functions \([0,1]^X\to[0,1]\) with certain conditions), and study some basic properties of these spaces, such as subspaces, continuity and compactness, etc.
