On the Cauchy problem for a class of parabolic equations with variable density (Q1293091)

The authors deal the Cauchy problem for the parabolic equation \(\rho u_t=\{ a[G(u)]_x\}_x\) in the planar domain \(\mathbb{R}\times (0,T]\). They express in terms of the behaviour of the solution of the ordinary differential equation \((ay')'=-\rho \) necessary and sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of a solution in the class of bounded functions.
