The author studies the growth of Sobolev norms for solutions of the linear Schrödinger equation \(iu_t+\Delta u+ Vu=0\) with a periodic (in space), time-dependent potential \(V=V(x,t)\) (the period is time independent). The potential is furthermore assumed to be smooth in \(x\) and \(t\) but nothing else is assumed on its time dependence. The main result states that, independent of the dimension, the \(H^s\)-norm of any wave function grows less fast than any power of \(t\). More precisely, for all \(\varepsilon>0\) and all \(s\) there is a constant \(C_{s,\varepsilon}\) such that \(\|\varphi_t\|_s\leq C_{s,\varepsilon}t^{\varepsilon}\|\varphi\|_s\) for large \(t\). This is quite surprising in view of the absence of assumptions on the time-dependence except smoothness. In the second part of the paper a lower bound for the growth of the \(H^1\)-norm is derived for a model with a randomness in the time dependence of the potential. A previous paper due to the same author was devoted to the case of periodic and quasi-periodic time dependence.
