The famous Jacobian conjecture states that a polynomial map \(f: {\mathbb C}^n\to {\mathbb C}^n\) with non-zero constant Jacobian is one-to-one. This conjecture, which is still completely open, is the motivation for the main result of this paper, which is the following: Theorem. Let \(f: {\mathbb C}^2\to {\mathbb C}^2\) be a polynomial map with non-zero constant Jacobian. If there exists a curve \(\Gamma\) homeomorphic to \({\mathbb C}\) such that the restricted map \(f: {\mathbb C}^2-\Gamma\to {\mathbb C}^2-\Gamma\) is a topological covering, then \(f\) is bijective.
