A framework for studying the convergence (order conditions) of one-step methods for index 2 DAEs in Hessenberg form is proposed. It uses so-called DA2-series for inconsistent initial values. Partitioned Runge-Kutta methods (PRK) are investigated in detail to show the applicability of the formal series approach, which can be applied to general systems of ODEs and Hamiltonian systems of ODEs, too. The necessary basic properties from \textit{A. Murua} [Appl. Numer. Math. 29, No. 2, 221-252 (1999; Zbl 0929.65126)] are shortly referred.
