The author continues his studies in Lie algebra computations by investigating the structure of a non-semisimple Lie algebra of characteristic 0, by using the action of a Cartan subalgebra. He gives an algorithm for calculating the nilradical and an algorithm for finding a Levi subalgebra. Implementations of these algorithms using the library of Lie algebra functions in the package ELIAS which is built into the computer algebra packages GAP and MAGMA are discussed.
