While designing sampled-data controllers for continuous-time linear systems, it is important to take into account the intersample behavior of the system. In this paper, the author investigates the possibility of improving the closed-loop system performance at the intersample instants when the control objective is the exact matching of the closed-loop system to a prescribed discrete-time model. The technique proposed to treat this problem is based on an appropriate error system and on the expansion of the output signal of this system in suitable basis functions which are selected so that certain finite rank linear nonself-adjoint operators are represented exactly.
