The primary contingency reliable control problem [see, e.g., \textit{R. J. Veillette, J. V. Medanic} and \textit{W. R. Perkins}, IEEE Trans. Autom. Control 37, 290-304 (1992; Zbl 0745.93025)] together with a numerical example is studied for affine uncertain nonlinear systems. Reliable nonlinear controllers based on positive definite solutions to Hamilton-Jacobi inequalities associated with corresponding certain systems guarantee robust asymptotic stability and \(H_{\infty}\) performance of the closed-loop systems, not only when all sensors and actuators are operational but also in the case of some sensor and actuator outages within a prespecified subset of sensors and actuators.
