Every smooth classical knot \(K\) in \(S^3\) bounds a surface smoothly embedded in \(B^4\); the minimum genus of such a surface is the smooth four-genus of \(K\), denoted \(G_S(K)\). If we allow locally-flat topological surfaces, then we get the topological four-genus of \(K\), denoted \(G_T(K)\). The main result of this paper is that for each pair \((l,m)\) of non-negative integers such that \(m>l\), there exists an infinite family of prime knots \(\{K_i\}\) which are linearly independent and satisfy \(G_T(K_i)=l\) and \(G_S(K_i)=m\). Linear independence here refers to the smooth knot concordance group.
