The Schur-Weyl duality relates in a fundamental way the representation theory and combinatorics of the symmetric group \(S_k\) and of the general linear group \(\text{GL}(V)\). Schur proved that the action of \(S_k\) on the tensor product \(V^{\otimes k}\) by permutations determines the centralizer of the action of \(\text{GL}(V)\) on \(V^{\otimes k}\). Schur's classical work on the general linear group was extended by Brauer to the orthogonal and symplectic groups; the relevant algebra is known as the Brauer algebra. Some of this work can be extended to Lie superalgebras. \textit{A. Berele} and \textit{A. Regev} [Adv. Math. 64, 118--175 (1987; Zbl 0617.17002)] and \textit{A. N. Sergeev} [Mat. Sb., Nov. Ser. 123 (165), 422--430 (1984; Zbl 0573.17002)] have shown that the action of the symmetric group \(S_k\) on \(V^{\otimes k}\) by ``graded'' permutations determines the centralizer of the general linear Lie superalgebra \(\text{gl}(V)\), when \(V\) is \({\mathbb Z}_2\)-graded. In the present paper, the authors extend this work to the orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras and to orthosymplectic Lie color algebras. Brauer showed that the orthogonal group \(O(V)\) and the symplectic group \(\text{Sp}(V)\) act on the tensor space \(V^{\otimes k}\), and he constructed an algebra (the Brauer algebra) which describes the centralizer of these actions. In the present paper, the authors prove that there is a Brauer algebra action on \(V^{\otimes k}\) which commutes with \(\text{spo}(V,\beta)\) [\(\beta\) refers to the ``coloring''; a special case yields the ordinary orthosymplectic Lie superalgebra \(\text{spo}(V)\), often referred to as \(\text{osp}(V)\)]. They use their main result to construct a family of maximal vectors for \(\text{spo}(V,\beta)\) in the tensor space, and to obtain (via the Brauer algebra action) a direct sum decomposition of \(V^{\otimes k}\) into \(\text{spo}(V,\beta)\)-submodules \(T^\lambda\) naturally labelled by partitions \(\lambda\) (note, however, that \(T^\lambda\) is not necessarily irreducible). Furthermore, they use character theory of the Brauer algebra to compute the characters of these \(\text{spo}(V,\beta)\)-modules \(T^\lambda\), give a combinatorial description of these characters in terms of tableaux, and develop a Robinson-Schensted-Knuth-type insertion scheme for the tableaux.
