Let \(X\) be an irreducible algebraic variety defined over a number field \(K\). The set of rational points of \(X\) are potentially dense if there exists a finite extension \(K'\) of \(K\) such that the set of \(K'\)-rational points of \(X\) is Zariski dense in \(X\). The first question raised by the authors is whether the rational points are potentially dense, if neither \(X\) nor its unramified coverings admit a morphism onto a variety of general type. Potentially density is known to hold for \(\dim X=1\) for unirational and abelian varieties. Previous results have already been obtained for Fano threefolds with the exception of double covers of the projective space ramified at smooth surfaces of degree 6 [cf. \textit{J. Harris} and \textit{Y. Tschinkel}, ``Rational points on quartics'', Duke Math. J. 104, No. 3, 477-500 (1998) and \textit{F. A. Bogolomov} and \textit{Y. Tschinkel}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 511, 87-93 (1999; Zbl 0916.14008)]. In this paper the authors consider the above question under the additional hypothesis that \(X\) admits a structure of an elliptic fibration \(\varphi:X\to B\) over a normal basis \(B\). As an application the authors prove that the rational points of Enriques surfaces are potentially dense.
