The main objective of this book is to close a gap between recent developments in the dynamics of bubbles, drops, and rigid particles with classical studies in fluid mechanics. The book is split into four parts. The first part is devoted to the governing equations and general properties of fluid flows. First, the authors give a brief description of the basic equations of fluid mechanics, and then present fundamental theorems and general properties of Stokes flows. The second part considers the motions of single rigid or fluid particles in viscous fluids. Some methods (singularity method, method of harmonic functions, analytical, numerical and asymptotic methods) are used for solving some steady flows. The basic results on the deformation of a single bubble and drop in a viscous flow are also presented here. The third part deals with hydrodynamic interactions between rigid or fluid particles. The authors study the behaviour of two rigid or fluid particles moving through a viscous fluid under the action of external forces, boundary effects on the motion of a single rigid or fluid particle, and hydrodynamical interaction between particles in viscous of suspensions and emulsions. The last part describes the methods for solving the problem of unsteady viscous flows involving rigid or fluid particles. The book is clearly written and offers a new perspective to readers interested in the title topics.
