Suppose that \(G\) is an \(r\)-discrete and principal groupoid [for necessary definitions here and in the sequel see \textit{J. Renault}, ``A groupoid approach to \(C^*\)-algebras'', Lect. Notes Math. 793, New York (1980; Zbl 0433.46049)]. Given a subset \(U\) of \(G\), let \(M(U):=\{ f\in C^*_{red}(G)\mid f(x)=0\) \(\forall x\in G\backslash U\}\). Then \(M(U)\) is a closed submodule of \( C^*_{\text{red}}(G)\). The main result of the paper under review is the following: Theorem. Let \(G\) be an \(r\)-discrete, principal and amenable groupoid. Then the mapping \(U\mapsto M(U)\) is an order-preserving isomorphism between the family of open subsets of \(G\) and the lattice of closed submodules of \(C^*(G)\). The authors also show the rigidity of the submodules.
