Let \( \beta > 1 \) be a real number and \( T_{\beta} \) denote the \(\beta\)-transformation of the unit interval \([0,1)\) given by \( T_{\beta} (x) = \beta x\pmod 1\). Let \( \nu_{\beta} \) denote the unique probability measure, defined on the \(\sigma\)-algebra \( \mathcal B \) of the Borel sets of \([0,1)\), which is equivalent to the Lebesgue measure and invariant under \( T_{\beta} \). The authors construct the natural extension of the system \( ([0,1)\), \({\mathcal B}\), \(\nu_{\beta}\), \(T_{\beta}) \), and prove that this extension has the Bernoulli property. This is the direct proof of a result obtained by \textit{M. Smorodinsky} [Acta Math. Acad. Sci. Hung. 24, 273-278 (1973; Zbl 0268.28007)].
