All two dimensions links are null homotopic (Q1297824)

The authors announce that every smooth \(n\)-link \(L:S^n\coprod\dots\coprod S^n\to S^{n+2}\) is null homotopic. The proof consists of two independent steps: the first is to construct a link concordance to the trivial link, and the second is to change the link concordance to a link homotopy. These are contained in the first author's PhD thesis and the second author's habilitation respectively, and are as yet unpublished. Here a much shorter proof is given for the case \(n=2\).
